  • MCARDLE COLTS CAPTURE 2 OF 5 PASS DIVISIONS WITH VICTORY BY MCARDLES LIGHTNING

    Jul 08, 2014

McArdle colts just keep on winning this day at The Meadows in PASS  action as MCARDLES LIGHTNING (McArdle-Winning Venture-Jate Lobell) captured the fourth of five $47,212.00 divisions in 1:55.4 in the slop circling the field the final quarter to get up and win by a neck for owner Lightning Stables, LLC, Florida, Steve Elliott, trainer, and Dave Palone , driver. It was the second win for McArdle colts this day, winning 2 of the 5 divisions in the ultra-tough Pennsylvania circuit. This is a true testament to this sire who has been successful on extremely small foal crops. We can't wait until his foals are racing here in Ohio; McArdle is certain to have an immdiate impact on the Ohio racing scene! Congratulations to all.

  • McWICKED - 1:47.3 WORLD RECORD AT POCONO WINNING THE HEMPT FINAL; TYRA WINS LYNCH CONSOLATION IN A NEW LIFETIME MARK OF 1:50.1; DATSYUK THIRD IN BEALE FINAL TROTTING IN 1:51.1

    Jun 30, 2014

Last Saturday evening proved to be a bellweather night for Hickory Lane and our stallion, McARDLE, as two of his 3 year old offspring shined on the big stage at Pocono Downs. No pacer was more impressive this evening than McWICKED who absolutely dominated his competition in cruising to a 1:47.3f WORLD RECORD for 3 year old pacing colts on a 5/8 mile track in the final of the $500,000.00 Hempt Memorial. It was simply a devastating performance, one that stamps McWICKED as one of the premier 3 year old pacers in the world and sets him up as one of the early favorites for the Little Brown Jug in September. Congratulations to his breeder, Andray Farm, one of owners of McCARDLE, and his owner, SSG Stables, N.Y., his trainer, Casie Coleman and his driver, David Miller.

Not to be overlooked was the stellar performance by TYRA, who, after winning the Lismore earlier this month at Yonkers, came off cover down the stretch at Pocono and flew by her rivals like she was shot out of a cannon to win by 3 lengths in a personal best of 1:50.1f in the $50,000.00 Lynch Consolation. TYRA has established herself as one of the premier pacing fillies in not only Pennsylvania, but in the country as well. She is tough, gritty and never gives up. Tim Tetrick drove her to victory for owners CC Racing LLC, Ill. and trainer Jim King, Jr. Congratulations to all.

Finally, Leonard Buckner and Charlie Norris' fine 3 year old trotter DATSYUK put in an outstanding performance in finishing third to Father Patrick and Nuncio in the $500,000.00 Earl Beale Final trotting his mile in an incredible 1:51.1, DATSYUK'S 1:51.1 mile was 1.1 seconds faster than Spyder Blue Chip's 1:52.2 world record mile for 3 year old geldings trotted last year at Pocono. This is all the more incredible when you note that DATSYUK has only had 6 lifetime starts in his career, never raced at 2, has lowered his time in all 6 starts by one second every start and has gone toe to toe with the  finest 3 year old trotters on the planet. Right now he is rated 4th in the country behind Jimmy Takter's big three. Congratulations to Leonard and Charlie and DATSYUK. There is still the Hambo on the horizon-you never know!

  • McWICKED SETS NATIONAL SEASON'S RECORD, NEW LIFETIME RECORD, MISSES WORLD RECORD BY 1/5 SECOND IN HAMMERING FIELD IN HEMPT ELIMINATION; DATSYUK SECOND IN 1:52.2f, TO EARN A SPOT IN THE $500,000.00 EARL BEALE FINAL

    Jun 23, 2014

McWICKED  was "McWicked Awesome" in his elimination of the Max C. Hempt Memorial at Mohegan Sun at Pocono Downs Saturday evening crushing a fine field of 3 year old colt pacers drawing off by over 5 lengths in a monster mile timed in 1:48f. That time set a national season's record for 3 year old colt pacers on a 5/8 mile track, shattered his own personal best time and just missed tying the world record of 1:47.4. Just an amazing performance given that he was stung and stretched out on the outside through a blistering half of 53.1. Yet, it was no problem for the son of McARDLE as he drew off effortlessly. He will undoubtedly be the favorite for next week's Hempt final. Good luck to his connections in the final.

DATSYUK, the Explosive Matter gelding, and son of the Farm's mare, PINK RIBBONS, trotted to a personal lifetime best of 1:52.2f finishing a strong second to Nuncio in his elimination in the Earl Beale Memorial at Pocono. 1:52.2 is a national season's record at Pocono. DATSYUK has lowered his time by a second in all of his last 4 starts while having only only 5 lifetime starts going into the final next week.  Owned by Farm co-owner, Leonard Buckner and trainer Charlie Norris, DATSYUK is rated fifth on the Hambletonian Watch List behind Trixton, Father Patrick, Nuncio and Harper Blue Chip. All of us at Hickory Lane are thrilled and excited for DATSYUK and his connections and wish them the very best of racing luck in this week's $500,000.00 final.

  • MCWICKED ROLLS TO VICTORY IN 1:48.3 IN THE NORTH AMERICA CUP ELIMINATION

    Jun 09, 2014

MCWICKED (McArdle- Western Sahara- Western Ideal) is now the second fastest son of MCARDLE after he romped home to victory in his $50,000.00 elimination heat of the North America Cup at Mohawk in 1:48.3, the fastest of the three divisions.MCWICKED stands second only to Meadowlands Pace winner and world record holder ONE MORE LAUGH, 1:47.4 as MCARDLE'S fastest son.MCWICKED popped the pocket at the top of the stretch for drive David Miller and paced home in electrifying and convincing fashion, letting everyone know he will be one of the betting favorites to win next week's North America Cup. Congratulations to owner, SSG Stables, New York , Casie Coleman, trainer, and breeder Andray Farm.MCWICKED'S win, coupled with TYRA'S victory in the Lismore Stakes last weekend, gives MCARDLE two major stakes winners in just two weeks, all from a 3 year old crop of only 43 foals! When you consider his competition at the sire level, this is an incredible feat.Hickory Lane has numerous MCARDLE babies this spring and we are impressed with every one of them. We can't wait to show them off next year at the yearling sales!Good luck next Saturday in the North America Cup final to MCWICKED and his connections.

  • ROSE RUN ORIANA SETS NEW LIFETIME MARK IN 1:53.3 AT MOHAWK

    Jun 04, 2014

Last evening ROSE RUN ORIANA (Trainforthefuture-Rose Run Doorah-Armbro Laser) set a new lifetime mark at Mohawk Raceway in a $20,000.00 conditioned trot in 1:53.3 easily wiring the field by open lengths from the eight hole. This 4 year old daughter of TRAINFORTHEFUTURE has established herself as one of the best conditioned aged trotters at Mohawk this Spring and early Summer. Congratulations to her owners the Rolling Hills Stables and Dimithri Pieria, Ontario. Hickory Lane Farm will sell 6 yearlings by TRAINFORTHEFUTURE at the Ohio Select Sale on September 15, 2014 at the Eden Park Equestrian Center, Sunbury, Ohio. Don't miss them!

  • TYRA VICTORIOUS IN THE LISMORE IN STAKES RECORD TIME; MCWICKED SECOND IN THE SOMEBEACHSOMEWHERE; DATSYUK REMAINS UNDEFEATED ON THE ROAD TO THE HAMBLETONIAN

    Jun 02, 2014

This past weekend was a very successful one for Hickory Lane Farm's stallion, MCARDLE. McArdle again proved he can produce winners on a national level as his fine 3 year old filly, TYRA, set a stakes record in the final of the $164,744.00 Lismore Stakes at Yonkers annihilating her competition by 7 lengths in 1:52,1h, pacing her last quarter in a blistering 27.3. She is owned by Cc Racing, LLC, Illinois; trained by Joanne Looney-King and driven by Tim Tetrick. TYRA has now bankrolled well over $200,000.00 in her short racing career. Congratulations to all.

Three year old colts were in action at Mohawk Saturday evening in the Somebeachsomewhere Stakes, a prep for the upcoming North America Cup. MCWICKED proved he belonged with the best in North America by finishing a hard closing second in his $75,000.00 division. MCWICKED,  purchased by the Casie Coleman Stable last Fall at Harrisburg, McWICKED will now set his sights on the North America Cup in a couple of weeks. Best of luck to his connections.

Hickory Lane Farm homebred DATSYUK (pronounced, "Dat-sook") (Explosive Matter-Pink Ribbons-Mr. Vic) has burst onto the 3 year old national trotting scene by going undefeated in his first three lifetime starts. Last Friday evening, he captured his second straight Pennsylvania Sires Stakes victory in 1:54.1f going wire to wire, besting a competitive field. DATSYUK, named after Detroit Red Wings hockey great, Pavel Datsyuk, is eligible to all the big races, including the Hambletonian. DATSYUK is special to us at Hickory Lane. He is co-owned by one of our longtime owners, Leonard Buckner, along with his trainer and driver, Charlie Norris. DATSYUK was born, nurtured and raised at Hickory Lane by Farm Manager and co-owner of the Farm, Brad Wallace. DATSYUK is out of the Farm's Hambletonian Oaks finalist and multiple stakes winning mare, PINK RIBBONS, 1:54.1f, the daughter of the great Ohio champion, DJ BABE, 1:55.1f. DATSYUK is now on the Hambletonian Society's watch list and ranks right below Jimmy Takter's trio of outstanding 3 year old trotters. Given that DATSYUK has only had 3 lifetime starts, all this year, the ceiling for his growth is unlimited. His next scheduled start (assuming all goes well) is June 14th at Pocono Downs in the third leg of the PASS. From there (again, assuming no major hurdles), he will go to the Earl Beale Memorial at Pocono and then hopefully, to the Hambo. All of us at Hickory Lane will be cheering Leonard, Charlie and DATSYUK every step of the way. Good luck fellas!
  • Tyra's Victorious in the Lismore Elimination at Yonkers

    May 26, 2014

McARDLE'S offspring continue to impress on the big stage. Saturday evening at Yonkers, TYRA (McArdle-Pernilla-Abercrombie) picked up where she left off as a two year old winning an elimination of the $164,744.00 Lismore Stakes for three year old pacing fillies in 1:54.4h, setting herself up as one of the favorites in next weekend's final. After a two hole trip, TYRA flushed out at the top of the stretch and paced home in 27.4 to take the victory by a length and a half for owner Cc Racing LLC, Illinois, trainer, Joanne Looney-King and driver, Jim Morrill.

McARDLE has had another successful year breeding in Ohio with a 2014 book totalling to date, 98. His book will more than likely  exceed 100 by the conclusion of the breeding season for the second year in a row. This is quite an accomplishment given the enormous increase in stallion competition that has come into Ohio this breeding season. It is a testament to McArdle's reputation, that breeder's know, that he is an extemely fertile stallion that consistently produces good looking foals that consistently compete not only at the sires stakes level but also at the very top levels of the sport. We look forward to his first Ohio crop selling at the yearling sales in the Fall, 2015.

  • Stand Forever Passes Away at Age 22

    Mar 17, 2014

It is with deep sadness that Hickory Lane announces that Stand Forever (Dragon's Lair-Niajet-Niatross) passed away at the Farm on March 15, 2014 from natural causes at the age of 22. "Stanley" as he was affectionately known to all on the Farm, was a favorite of the staff and many who came in contact with him due to his wonderful personality. Good luck to SOUL TRAIN and his connections in the final. We are proud to have produced at Hickory Lane Farm this fine young trotter!

  • Dejarmbro and McArdle Service Full Books in 2013

    Aug 14, 2013

Hickory Lane is pleased to announce that both DEJARMBRO and MCARDLE serviced full books in 2013. DEJARMBRO's book of 140 quality mares was full and closed by February 15th. Dejarmbro's conception rate was over 90%. Due to the tremendous demand, The Dejarmbro Syndicate will be accepting applications for the 2014 breeding season the remainder of this year. It is anticipated DEJARMBRO's book will be full and closed again early next year so if you are desirous of breeding to DEJARMBRO next year, it is recommended that you contact Hickory Lane before Thanksgiving and request an application so that your mare can be considered for next year.

MCARDLE also proved to be a very popular stallion in Ohio in 2013. MCARDLE (who's book is not subject to limits) bred a full book of 175 mares with over 80% confirmed in foal to date. Given the number of foals MCARDLE will have in 2014, there is no doubt his offspring will have a major impact in Ohio and elsewhere. From limited crops the past couple of years in Pennsylvania, MCARDLE continues to sire top level stakes winning performers like MCWICKED, who won a division of the PASS 2 year old colt pace at The Meadows yesterday (see story below). There is not a better pacing sire for the value currently standing in Ohio. It will be exciting to watch his foals develop and race over the next few years.

  • A Big Weekend For Hickory Lane Stallion Offspring

    Jun 15, 2013

This past weekend proved to be a big weekend for offspring of McARDLE and STAND FOREVER in stakes and overnight action. Friday evening, Pennsylvania Sires Stakes action took place at Harrah's Chester featuring 2 year old pacing fillies. In the $57,227.00 first division, MCARDLE filly TYRA (McArdle-Pernilla-Abercrombie) came from way off the pace to win in 1:54.1f for driver Tim Tetrick, trainer Joanne Looney-King and owner, the CC Racing, Ill. TYRA paced her final quarter in 27.2.

Not to be out done, on Saturday, BAKIN ON THE BEACH, 4,g 1:50.4f (McArdle-Elizabeth Street-Falcon Almahurst), bred here in Ohio by Cool Winds Farm, set a track record at Scioto Downs winning in a blistering 1:50.4f. (Unfortunately, the record only lasted a few races where it was later lowered by a fifth of a second.). With a limited number of foals racing from his last few Pennsylvania crops, McARDLE is showing he can compete with the very best. McARDLE was bred to a full book of mares his first season in Ohio. He will have well over 100 foals on the ground by this time next year assuring everyone that he is here to stay and will be a major force competing in the Ohio stakes program.

Also on Saturday evening, CHANCE I MIGHT (Stand Forever-Nature's Course-Precious Bunny) was back at it, winning again in Ohio Sires Stakes action in the 2 year old colt pace at Scioto Downs winning his $30,000.00 division in a fine 1:56.2f for owner Rebecca Dwyer, Trainer Jim Dailey and driver Brad Hanners. • Stand Forever Three Year Olds Dominate Ohio Sires Stakes Action at Lebanon Raceway

    May 06, 2013

Ohio Sires Stakes action kicked the season off Friday at Lebanon Raceway and STAND FOREVER three year old colts and fillies took three of the four $30,000.00 divisions in convincing fashion.

Starting the weekend off on Friday was FOREVER LA NIGH (Stand Forever-Game Madonna) who breezed to an easy wire to wire victory in 1:57.4h for owners Bruce and Patricia Soulsby, driver Tony Hall and trainer Ron Steck.

Saturday night saw trainer Tom Brinkerhoff sweep the two divisions of the colt pace with a pair of colts owned by Rebecca Ewing and Leonard Buckner, both colts, by the way, were born and raised at Hickory Lane Farm.  MY MISTER E (Stand Forever-She's a Ruff One) carried over his strong finish to his two year old campaign with a ridiculously easy wire to wire win in 1:58h for Rebecca Ewing. Not to be outdone, OUTDOOR FEVER (Stand Forever-Bang the Door) was declared the winner in his heat when another Stand Forever, FIRETOWERS STAND, was disqualified for interference nullifying a one-two finish for the Stand colts. OUTDOOR FEVER's winning time was the fastest of the evening, 1:57h for his owner, Leonard Buckner. It should be quite a battle this year between these two fine colts; can't wait for the second leg of action! Congratulations to all and best wishes for a successful 2013 campaign.
