Barnabas, another McArdle colt, finished third giving McArdle a sweep in that division. Scotch's seasonal earnings have ballooned to $213,462 and he is a cinch to capture divisional honors as he, along with the Dejarmbro filly, Let's Get Started, won their divisional Triple Crown's. Congratulations to owner, Carl Atley, trainer, Jim Dailey and driver, Josh Sutton.
MCTHRILLER (McArdle-You Thrill Me-Jate Lobell) captured his division of the Ohio Breeder's Championship 2 year old colt pace in a stakes record time for 2 year old geldings in 1:53.4h. The brilliant freshman filly trotter , LET'S GET STARTED (Dejarmbro-Tori Ann-SJ's Photo) completed her stellar campaign with a gutsy first over victory in the Ohio Breeder's Championship trotting to a new stakes record of 1:57.4h. It was her sixth win in seven starts this year, increasing her yearly earnings in excess of $243,000. The Ohio Triple Crown includes victories in the Ohio State Fair Stakes, the Ohio Sires Stakes final and the Ohio Breeder's Championship and Let's Get Started won all three in dominate fashion. Her sire, DEJARMBRO has had a fantastic first season at stud. He ranks first in Ohio and second only to Cantab Hall nationally in two year old winners with 40 and third in total two year old earnings nationally of just short of 1.2 million, behind only the great Muscle Hill and Cantab Hall. We congratulate the owners-breeders of Let's Get Started, Joyce and Dick McClelland on what most certainly was a very memorable year for them and their brilliant trotter. Well done!
DEJARMBRO fillies and MCARDLE colts finished off a sweep of the two year old Ohio Sires Stakes Championship races by each winning their respective $50,000.00 Consolation Finals at Scioto Downs. LET'S GET STARTED and SCOTCH MCEWEN won their $250,000 championships last Saturday and VANDY"S MAGIC and MCTHRILLER followed up with victories in the Ohio Sires Stakes Consolation Finals Monday at Scioto Downs.
VANDY'S MAGIC (Dejarmbro-Traditional Lady-Self Possessed) simply imposed her will against her 2 year old filly foes by overpowering them and grinding out a first over victory in 1:58f for her fourth victory in six starts this year, increasing her annual earnings to more than $61,000.00. Congratulations to owner-trainer, Allen Tomlinson and owner Oliver Tatro and driver Peter Wrenn.
Rounding out the sweep was the Hickory Lane bred two year old MCTHRILLER (McArdle-You Thrill Me-Jate Lobell). McThiller and driver Chris Page waited patiently down the stretch until they found a small opening and burst through it effortlessly pacing away from the rest of the field in a season's best time of 1:53.4f in the $50,000.00 OSS Consolation Championship for two year old pacing colts. With the win, McThriller has now increased his annual earnings to $71,000.00 for owners NR Holdings, LLC, TLP Stable and Howard Taylor. Saturday, September 3, 2016 was a memorable night for Hickory Lane and its debut stallions, DEJARMBRO and MCARDLE as they each had a 2 year old Ohio Sires Stakes Champion.
Starting the evening off was LET'S GET STARTED (Dejarmbro-Tori Ann-SJ'sPhoto) with a heart stopping winning effort from the 8-hole as she overcame a slight break before the half and roared up on the outside to get up just in time for the victory in the $250,000.00 final tying her previous track record in 1:57h. With the win, Let's Get Started has clinched Horse of the Year honors for 2 year old filly trotters and increased her seasonal earnings to $215,300.00. Congratulations to owners-breeders, Joyce and Dick McClelland, trainer Bobby Brower and driver Josh Sutton.
Not to be outdone, and also starting from the dreaded 8-hole, was McArdle's 2 year old son SCOTCH MCEWEN (McArdle-Forever Ivy-Stand Forever) who was parked out the entire mile and still had enough heart and stamina to work his way to victory in 1:54h. The consummate professional racehorse, Scotch used his versatility to overcome nearly impossible odds to secure the victory. Scotch McEwen now has amassed seasonal earnings of $195,800.00 and is the current track record holder at Scioto Downs for 2 year old pacing colts. Congratulations to owner Carl Atley, trainer Jim Dailey, driver Josh Sutton, and Rebecca Ewing-Buckner, breeder of Scotch McEwen, and co-owner of Hickory Lane Farm. Scotch was raised right here at Hickory Lane and we couldn't be any more proud of his accomplishments. Congratulations to the winners and to Dejarmbro and McArdle-job well done!
LOREENA'S RUFFIAN (McArdle-She's A Ruff One-Ruffstuff Baker) won the fastest division of the Reynold's Memorial Grand Circuit race at Tioga Downs for two year old pacing fillies this evening blistering the 5/8 oval in 1:53f, a full second faster than the next fastest division. Lorena's Ruffian drew off by 4 1/2 lengths over the rest of the filed pacing home her last half mile in identical 27.4 second splits. That is the third win so far year for Loreena's Ruffian. Congratulations to owners Leonard Buckner, Rebecca Ewing-Buckner and Charlie Norris who also drives and trains this fine filly.
After the dust settled on the final legs of Ohio Sires Stakes Action, first year Hickory Lane sires MCARDLE and DEJARMBRO will send nine of their 2 year old offspring to represent them in the 2 million dollar Super Night at Northfield Park Saturday, September 3rd. In order to be eligible for the $250,000.00 divisional finals in their respective gates, these 2 year old had to endure 4 grueling legs against stiff competition and garner enough points to be included in the final eight horses eligible to race in their respective finals. The finalists are the following:
2 Year Old Filly Trot:
1. LET'S GET STARTED, the leading point producer and the current track record holder at Northfield Park and Scioto Downs and winner of three of four divisions, she will be the favorite heading into the final. She is owned by Dick and Joyce McClellan, trained by Bobby Brower.
2. MADIERA AS , winner of two legs, this big, strong, beautiful filly races well from behind and will be a major player in the final. She is owned by ACL Stutteri, Kjell Johansson, trained by Annette Lorentzon.
3. PURPLE SONA, winner of two legs and with an explosive burst of speed, this filly just needs to mind her manners. If so, she too will be a force to contend with in the final. She is owned by Dale Sweet, Acadia Farms and is trained by Miles and Marty Wollam.
2 Year Old Filly Pace:
MAAVELOUS, this McArdle filly was ultra consistent all season registering a win and two seconds for owners, Down The Lane Stables, Kimberly Dailey and trained by Jim Dailey.
2 Year Old Colt Trot:
1. DEJAROVER, a big, talented Dejarmbro who hasn't even begun to scratch the surface of his potential, this colt had one win in sires stakes action and a couple of places entering into the final. He is owned by The Purple Haze Stable and trained by Kelly O'Donnell.
2. STORMY KROMER, worked his way into the final tin he last leg by finishing a strong second. While he has yet to put it all together this year, this is another Dejarmbro colt with immense talent and speed and as soon as he does put it together, he will be a major force to deal with. He is owned by the Gene Oldford Farm, Melanie Wrenn Racing LLC and N Kates Co. LLCM and trained by Peter Wrenn.
2 Year Old Colt Pace:
1. SCOTCH MCEWEN, an ultra talented McArdle colt, he holds the track record at Scioto Downs for two year old pacing geldings. He is versatile and can handle any situation. Sure to be one of the favorites for the final, this colt can do it all. He is owned by Carl Atley and trained by Jim Dailey.
2. BARNABAS, is an ultra tough, rugged McArdle who holds the track record for two year old pacing geldings at Northfield Park. If he draws inside in the final, he will be extremely difficult to beat due to his grit and determination. He is owned by Country Club Acres, Joe Sbrocco and trained by Brian Brown.
3. MCLUCKY, is a high speed son of MCARDLE who has just gotten better as the year has progressed. Winner of two legs and second in the other two, he stands to be a major player in the final along with the two other McArdle's. He is owned by Michael Creps and the Jeff Miller Stable and trained by Jeff Miller.
We congratulate this group and know that they will proudly represent their owners, trainers, sires and Hickory Lane and we wish them all the best of luck in their respective finals!
Two year old pacing and trotting colts were in action at Scioto Downs August 16th and two McArdle colts won their respective divisions, both born and raised at Hickory Lane Farm.
SCOTCH MCEWAN (McArdle-Forever Ivy-Stand Forever) started the day off in the first race wiring the field by 3 1/2 lengths in the easiest of fashions in 1:53.2f. This was the fastest time of the day and is Scotch McEwan's second win in OSS action. After the race, driver Josh Sutton commented that "Scotch" has no idea how fast he can go. With this victory, Scotch McEwan has set himself up to be one of the eight finalists for the $250,000 final Saturday night, September 3rd at Northfield Park. Congratulations to owner, Carl Atley, trainer, Jim Dailey and driver Josh Sutton.
In the very next division, another Hickory Lane raised colt, MCLUCKY (McArdle-Luckmustbealady-Camluck) also wired the field after rains made the track muddy in a sharp 1:54.3f. After three straight frustrating second place finishes where McLucky was locked in each time, he finally broke free of trouble Tuesday and showed that healso will be a colt to contend with come September 3rd in the final.
Presently, with one more leg to go at Northfield Park on August 23rd, MCARDLE has four colts eligible for the final and five more knocking on the door hoping lady luck will shine upon them next Wednesday. It has been an incredible year so far for McArdle and we anxiously await next Wednesday and the results. One thing is certain, McArdle colts will be very prominent in the $250,000.00 final. Congratulations to the winners in yesterday's OSS action.
For the second time this summer LET'S GET STARTED (Dejarmbro-Tori Ann-SJ's Photo) set a track record for two year old trotting fillies, this time at Northfield Park , by trotting the 1/2 mile track in a blistering 1:57h winning her division of the Ohio Sires Stakes. Driven by Josh Sutton, she started the race patiently sitting third at the half 5 1/2 lengths behind the two front runners when she began her patented move of going first over and wearing down the leaders. Let's Get Started trotted her last 1/2 mile in 58.1 seconds winning by 3 3/4 lengths. This is the second track record for Let's Get Started Earlier this summer, she established the track record for 2 year old trotting fillies at Scioto Downs trotting the mile in 1:56.4f in OSS action. Let's Get Started has established herself as the top trotting freshman filly in Ohio with earning in excess of $70,000.00 to date. Second to her in the race was the previously undefeated Dejarmbro filly MADEIRA AS who raced strong after being saddled with the dreaded eight hole in the race. Congratulations to owners Dick and Joyce McClelland, trainer Bobby Brower and driver Josh Sutton. What was impressive about this mile is that 5 of the top 6 fillies in Ohio were entered in this race, yet Let's Get Started made her win look incredibly easy.
In other sires stakes action, VANDY'S MAGIC (Dejarmbro-Traditional Lady-Self Possessed) burst onto the sires stakes racing scene by wiring her field and drawing off by 3 3/4 lengths in 1:59h. This big beautiful dark filly has a gait that is big and long and she simply overpowered the rest of the field. Congratulations to owner-trainer Al Tomlinson, Oliver Tatro, and driver Don Irvine, Jr. for a masterful drive. In the other two divisions, Dejarmbro fillies I LIKE PURPLE and PURPLE SONA both finished second making for a very productive night for this first year sire.
Not to be outdone on the pacing side MCARDLE's daughter MARVELOUS (McArdle-Memorial Day Bunny-Precious Bunny) made a gutsy first over move before the three quarter pole and fought off three challengers to win her division of Ohio Sires Stakes action for two year old pacing fillies in a snappy 1:55h. With this win, Marvelous has positioned herself to make the $250,000 final at Northfield Park in early September. Congratulations to owners Down The Lane Stables and Kimberly Daily, trainer Jim Daily and driver Peter Wrenn.
With just one leg of Ohio Sires Stakes action remaining for two year old trotting fillies, DEJARMBRO is poised to send three and maybe four fillies into the final of eight. This is quite an accomplishment for this first year sire. Congratulations to all!
Wednesday evening kicked off the Ohio State Fair Stakes for 2016 at Scioto Downs and Hickory Lane sired offspring were front and center winning three of the seven divisions and finishing second or third in six of the seven divisions.
Starting off the action in the first race is the super-impressive freshman filly trotter, LET"S GET STARTED (Dejarmbro-Tori Ann-SJ's Photo). Fresh off her track record performance last week, LET"S GET STARTED impressed the spectators again with a gutsy first over trip against the favorite, wore her down and trotted on to a 2 length victory in 1:57.1f for owners Dick and Joyce McClelland, trainer Bobby Brower and driver Josh Sutton. LETS GET STARTED now has earnings in excess of $50,000.
DEJARMBRO fillies made it two for three when MADEIRA AS (Dejarmbro-Madeleine It-Daguet Rapide) opportunistically raced to the from at the quarter pole and never looked back for her third straight victory. She is now undefeated in her young career already banking over $60,000. Congratulations to owners, Acl Stutteri, Kjell Johansson, trainer Annette Lorentzon and driver Chris Page.
Concluding the evening in State Fair action was the sharp performance by the MCARDLE filly MYBROWNEYEDGIRL (McArdle-Christinella Bella-A Stud Named Sue) who rode a pocket trip to the top of the stretch and then exploded down the lane to win by a length and a half in a snappy 1:55.2f. Registering her first win of the year, this talented filly went off at a ridiculous 47-1thus paying off handsomely for her backers. Congratulations to owners Lomangino Standardbreds of New Jersey and Jennifer Brown, trainer Brian Brown and driver Ronnie Wrenn, Jr.
Both MCARDLE and DEJARMBRO continue their impressive opening years as sires in Ohio. Not only are they the leading sires of stake wins in Ohio for their respective gates but both rank second nationally in total money won . DEJARMBRO is first nationally in the total number of two year old winners to date with 33, which is absolutely an impressive total.
We are in the process of bringing our yearlings in from the pastures to groom them for the upcoming Fall yearling sales. Please feel free to call the Farm and come out and inspect this impressive group. We feel you will like what you see! Stake Fair Action continues Thursday evening for 2 year old colts and fillies at Scioto. No doubt DEJARMBRO and MCARDLE colts will be well represented.
Tuesday, July 19th at Scioto Downs was a big day for DEJARMBRO fillies as they dominated the first three of four divisions of OSS action starting out with LETS GET STARTED (Dejarmbro-Tori-Ann-SJ's Photo) smashing the track record for two year old trotting fillies at Scioto trotting the mile in 1:56.3f in the first race. What was so impressive about this mile was that LETS GET STARTED had to track down from 8 lengths behind the two front runners who are two of the better trotting fillies in the State of Ohio. While expending considerable energy just to catch up with them at the 3/4 pole in a blistering 1:26.4, LETS GET STARTED then came first over against both of them and wore them down in the stretch to win by a length in her record breaking mile in only her second lifetime start and first lifetime win! This superb filly is owned by Dick and Joyce McClellan, is trained by Bobby Brower and was masterfully driven by Josh Sutton. Congratulations to all on a memorable race.
Picking right up where LETS GET STARTED left off is the beautiful and powerful MADEIRA AS (Dejarmbro-Madeline It-Daguet Rapide) who made it 2 for 2 in OSS action by wearing down her opposition in a workmanlike 1:58.2f. A big, strong and physically imposing filly, MADEIRA AS came first over and just overpowered her competition drawing off by open lengths. MADEIRA AS is owned by John Magnusson's ACL STUTERI AB and Kjell Johansson, trained by Mr. Magnusson's daughter, Annette Lorentzon and patiently driven by Chris Page. Congratulations to all.
In the third division, PURPLE SONA (Dejarmbro-Sonalona Hanover-Donato Hanover) did not waste any time going right to the front and easily wiring her field in a 3 length victory in 1:58.2f .PURPLE SONA was tons the best and has yet to be truly tested this year winning all of her starts and her two OSS starts by open lengths. This classy filly is owned by George Berlin's Acadia Farms, Inc., Dale Sweet, Toledo, Oh, and G & B Racing. Miles and Marty Wollam train this classy filly while Kurt Sugg drives her. Congratulations to her connections.
Two year old trotting fillies will be back in action next Wednesday, July 27th when the Ohio State Fair Stakes races begin. We anxiously look forward to watching these fabulous fillies continue to do their thing as the season progresses. They are fun to watch!
McArdle 2 year old colts continued where they left off at Northfield Park on Monday, July 11, 2016 by winning an amazing 4 of 8 legs of Ohio Sires Stakes competition including two new winners.
MCRAVEN (McArdle-Scooch-Real Desire) started the run by easily winning his second straight Ohio Sires Stakes race on 1:54.4h showing he is one of the very best 2 year olds in Ohio. Congratulations to owners Country Club Acres, Inc. and L & H Management Services, Findlay, Ohio. Brian Brown trains and Ronnie Wrenn, Jr. did the driving.
BARNABAS (McArdle-Panagler-No Pan Intended) also won for the second straight time in sires stakes action by wiring the field in 1:54.1h, one-fifth off the track record for 2 year old geldings. BARNABAS fought off a furious challenge at the three quarter pole, digging in and fighting back to put away his opponent. Again, Country Club Acres, Inc. scored again as owners along with Joe Sbrocco, Richard Lombardo and William Robinson. BARNABAS is also trained by Brian Brown and was superbly driven by Chris Page. BARNABAS was bred, born and raised at Hickory Lane. Finishing second was Hickory Lane born and bred MCLUCKY (McArdle-Luckmustbealady-Camluck).
JIM MCRHODY (McArdle-Jin Millie-Western Ideal) scored his first Ohio Sires Stakes win of the year by wiring the field in 1:54.3h over another McArdle and winner of the first leg, OHIO LARRY (McArdle-Perfect Sport-Sportsmaster). Congratulations to owner, Peavyhouse Stables, trainer, Phillip Peavyhouse and driver, Skip DeMull.
Rounding out a sensational evening for McArdle was first time winner MCSPIVEY (McArdle-Tymal Trilogy-Mach Three) in 1:55.2h for owner, Scott Cox Stables. Scott Cox also trains and Greg Grismore confidently drove him to victory.
As of this writing, MCARDLE leads all sires in North America in total money won for all two year olds. This is just an incredible accomplishment. What is so exciting is that McArdle's colts and fillies just keep getting better as the year progresses. The State Fair Stakes is up next for these colts and we have no doubt that Ohio's best pacing sire will be well represented. Congratulations to all winners and their connections.
Over the July 4th weekend McArdle and Dejarmbro 2 year olds began their racing careers with their own fireworks winning and astounding 13 legs of Sires Stakes action at both Northfield Park on Sunday and Scioto Downs on Monday,
At Northfield Park, fillies took the spotlight with PURPLE SONA (Dejarmbro-Sonalona Hanover-Donato Hanover) starting things off with an impressive 2:00.4h romp over the 1/2 mile oval by making a swift move at the three quarter pole from fourth to first in an instant and then drawing off by four lengths. Congratulations for owners Acadia Farms and Dale Sweet, trainer Marty Wollam, driver Kurt Sugg.
Not to be outdone, the beautiful MADEIRA AS (Dejarmbro-Madeline It-Daguet Rapide) navigated the 1/2 mile oval beautifully rallying to win in 1:59h going away for owners ACL Stuteri AB and Kjell Johansson, trainer Annette Lorentzon and driver Chris Page.
McArdle fillies made their presence felt with wins by Hickory Lane bred LOREENA'S RUFFIAN (McArdle-She's a Ruff One-Ruffstuff Baker) going wire to wire with an easy win in 1:56.3h for owners Rebecca Ewing Buckner, Leonard Buckner and Charlie Norris, trainer Charlie Norris and driver Ray Paver.
Rounding out the winners was the Hickory Lane bred filly STRIKE A CHORD (McArdle-Musical Dreamer-Jate Lobell) who also wired the field in an impressive 1:56.3h for owners Country Club Acres, Inc. Richard Lombardo, Joe Sbrocco and William Robinson.
At Scioto Downs Monday, July 4th, colts were in action. McArdle colts absolutely dominated the 11 divisions winning an astounding 7 of them, many of them finishing 1-2 or 1, 2 and 3. It was domination that hasn't been seen in quite some time in Ohio given the increased level of competition. McArdle has proven time and time again that he is a national sire, capable of siring colts with speed, determination and most importantly-heart. Many of them willed their way to victory putting everything on the line in order to get their noses in front at the end. The seven McArdle winners are listed below, congratulations to all.
1. OHIO LARRY, 1:55.1f (McArdle-Perfect Sport-Sportsmaster. Owner: Gerrie Tucker, Montreal, Que.; Trainer,Tyler George; Driver, Ronnie Wrenn, Jr.

SPEED LANE 1:59.1f (Dejarmbro-Long Lane-Lindy Lane) Owners: Randy Leopard, Tim Homon and Kimberly Dailey, Trainer, Jim Dailey, Driver, Kayne Kauffman.
As of July 4th, both MCARDLE and DEJARMBRO lead all sires in both gaits in North America in two year old earnings. This is quite an accomplishment for them and we expect even more exciting stories in the weeks ahead. Congratulations to all the winners and participants on a great weekend of racing!
On June 14th McLUCKY (McArdle Luckmustbealady-Camluck) smashed the track record for 2 year old pacing colts at the Paulding Fair in his first lifetime start blistering the mile in an eye popping 1:58.3h. He lowered the track record by over two seconds. McLucky held off three different challenges during the course of his record mile. Congratulations to owners Jeff Miller Stable and Mike Creps and trainer Jeff Miller.
McLucky is just one example of the phenomenal start for McARDLE in Ohio this year. As of June 16, 2016, McArdle leads all North American sires with 17 two year old winners. Several of his colts and fillies already have sub 2:00 marks in their initial starts and already one-half of his two year olds have raced. What is so eye-popping is that many of his winners have not merely won their qualifiers, they have won by open lengths, drawing away. It is conceivable McArdle could have as many as 30 colts and fillies entered in the first leg of the Ohio Sires Stakes. McArdle is proving what we knew when we introduced him to Ohio, that he is a top sire capable of siring grand circuit level horses, both colts and fillies.
Not to be outdone, DEJARMBRO is off to an equally fast start with 9 two year old winners to date, placing him in the top three trotting sires of two year old winners in North America. Diva Dejarmbro (Dejarmbro-Nordic Nymph-Broadway Hall), a filly bred here at Hickory Lane trotted a sub 2:02 winning mile at Gateway for Trond Smedshammer in her first lifetime start coming home the last half in a minute. Purple Sona (Dejarmbro-Sonalona Hanover-Donato Hanover) in trotting her sub 2:02 winning mile at The Meadows in her first lifetime start for trainer Marty Wollam, trotted home the last half in 58 seconds. Several other Dejarmbro's, including those that have yet to record their first victory, show last half mile's in a minute or better, a true indication of how they will perform when the racing matters in the stake races.
Obviously, with the initial success of these two first year sires, we can't wait of the stake season to start. Periodically, we will update you on their success.
The first Matinee of the season for this season's two year olds was held Sunday, May 15th at Upper Sandusky, Ohio on a cold, blustery day. The day shined brightly however on the only two Dejarmbro colts entered in the matinee by trainer John Konesky III. Cedar Point (Dejarmbro-Cash Cow-Muscles Yankee) and Charming Cadet (Dejarmbro-Sasha Hall-Striking Sahbra) both won their respective heats in impressive fashion going wire to wire and drawing away from their rivals both with finishing last quarters in 31 seconds without any urging whatsoever. Both colts were very well mannered, great gaited and showed flashes of extreme speed and were very much the best on a very challenging day weather-wise. This is just the start of what promises to be a very big first year for Dejarmbro. Congratulations to owners Pat Konesky and John Konesky III and their two fine colts.
McArdle also had a big winner Sunday. McCrystal (McArdle-Kristel's Princess-Laag) and Jeff Ebersole used a strong finishing kick to sweep by their rivals in a two year old filly pace. The gray filly showed her ability to race from behind and with her efficient gate, exploded down the lane with a great burst of speed. McCrystal shows great promise and appears to be poised to race at a high level this year.
Finally, maybe the most impressive performance of all of the pacers was the Stand Forever two year old, KT War-Bates (Stand Forever-Ken's Mystifier-Noble Return), driven by Tyler Bates and owned by Peggy Warren. The two year old colt blitzed the mile in an eye popping 2:07. Considering the conditions, this was quite impressive. This is the last crop of two years olds for Stand Forever. We wish Tyler and Peggy the best of luck in 2016.
As the racing season gets underway, we will be updating you with many more progress reports from our first year sires. Congratulations to all winners at yesterday's matinee!
The 2016 breeding season is in full swing and it is shaping up as another banner year for Hickory Lane's three stallions, Uncle Peter, Dejarmbro and McArdle.
Uncle Peter's book has been full and closed since early January. The response this second year is even greater than the first in 2015. To top it off, his foals look just like him with a lot of leg, long bodies and pretty heads. His fertility has been excellent and he is great in the breeding shed. The quality of trotting mares Uncle Peter has received so far are the best in Ohio. It is hard not to imagine the impact this stallion will have when his yearlings hit the market.
Dejarmbro is now in his fourth year and as of this writing has booked over 100 mares and is well on his way to a book in the 120 to 130 catagory, if not more. As you know, his yearlings were well received at the yearling sales last year, averaging over $20,000.00 per yearling. More importantly, however, are the training reports we are receiving from trainers. While we all know this time of year is filled with optimism and hope, we are hearing phrases to describe the Dejarmbro's as "good gaited", "smart", "have a lot of endurance" and, "have class". Several top trainers who are training multiple Dejarmbro's indicate that all of them that they have in training are good, not just one or two. We are hopeful these accolades carry over when these two year olds start qualifying!
McArdle. The only word that comes to mind to describe this stallion is remarkable. McArdle is now in his fourth year standing in Ohio and already he has booked more than 100 mares this season, heading again to a full book despite intense competition in the State. His 2015 yearlings led the way in average at the Sales last year, topping ALL stallions in average. The training reports we receive are what we expected. The best ones will be among the best in Ohio. His track record is proven and he throws exceptionally good looking foals.
All in all, it has been another great breeding season at Hickory Lane. All of us here at the Farm are so appreciative of the support and recognition you have given us. We have worked hard and continue to do so to bring you the best quality stallions available. It is our sincere hope that your offspring will reward you on the racetrack with a champion from all three of these marvelous stallions. Good luck!
As we approach a new breeding season, all of us at Hickory Lane Farm want to wish you and your family a very happy holiday season!
Our three stallions, McArdle, Uncle Peter and Dejarmbro are booking at a rapid pace, especially Uncle Peter. If you are not a syndicate member and want to breed to Uncle Peter, it is strongly suggested you send in your application for consideration before the end of the year. The training reports we are receiving on the McArdle's and Dejarmbro's so far are very encouraging. The most prevalent comments we hear on the Dejarmbro's are that they are naturally gaited and have good common sense. On the McArdle's we hear they go out and do what they are supposed to do. One trainer went so far as to say to us that the McArdle colt he broke this year was the best he has broke in 25 years of training. With 95 two year olds beginning their careers in Ohio next year, McArdle will no doubt be a major force. He was a prominent stallion in the toughest jurisdiction, Pennsylvania, when he was saddled with foal crops of less than 40 every year. Just think what he will do with a large group in Ohio next year!
We are really excited about Dejarmbro. Many trainers have told us they sense they are Grand Circuit caliber horses. What people may not know is that after winning the Earl Beal Memorial in world record time as a three year old, Dejarmbro would have likely been the clear favorite for the Hambletonian two weeks later if he would have been eligible to the race. With his looks, pedigree and gait, it would be hard to imagine he will not have some grand circuit colts and fillies competing next summer. This is the year to breed back to him at a $5,000 stud fee because it may never be this low again.
We encourage you to book early if you wish to breed to these stallions. Their books have been full every year they have stood at Hickory Lane and we see 2016 as no exception. Feel free to call the Farm, we will be happy to assist you.

It was a busy past weekend for Hickory Lane horses and a successful one at that. Topping the weekend off was the brilliant 2 year old McArdle colt, McDave, who got up and won the fastest division of the Tompkins-Geers Grand Circuit races Sunday at Tioga in a sparkling 1:52.1f. McDave has taken on and beaten the best 2 year old colts in the country this summer, something you can come to expect in the years ahead in Ohio if you own a McArdle offspring.
Not to be outdone, Crosswinds Cupcake (Stand Forever-Keystone Mulberry-Artsplace) once again let everyone know she is the best 3 year old pacing filly in Ohio destroying her field in a near track record time of 1:51.4f, missing it by just 1/5 of a second. Congratulations to her connections.
Back to the Grand Circuit, Kathy Parker (Andover Hall-Mallelujah-Malabar Man) was second beaten by less than an inch in the prestigious $395,450.00 Jim Doherty final (formerly known as the Merrie Annabelle) at the Meadowlands on Hambo Day this past Saturday. Kathy Parker is out of the fine Hickory Lane mare, Mallelujah, who is presently in foal to Dejarmbro. Congratulations to the Jimmy Takter connections and co-owners Ohioans, Joyce and Dick McClelland.
Finally, congratulations are in order to Jay and Jake Mossbarger's of Midland Acres. Pinkman, whom they raised and sold as a yearling, won the prestigious Hambletonian this past weekend at The Meadowlands. The Mossbarger's own the mother of Pinkman, Margie Seelster, and what a thrill it must be to own the dam of a Hambo winner! Congratulations from all of us at Hickory Lane!
We will be taking videos of our yearlings this week. The Ohio Selected Jug Sale catalog is online at the Lexington Select Yearling Sale website for your review. We have the largest single consignment of any consignor and we feel, the best bred yearlings overall as a group, in the sale. Check them out.
On Adios day, McArdle's two year old filly, Shesasmokinlady (McArdle-Smokin Pistol-Jate Lobell) smoked her opposition in a $20,000.00 division of the Arden Downs grand circuit race by wiring the field in 1:53f, just two-fifths off the stakes record. Owned by Iris Horowitz, driven by Tony Hall and trained by Kelly Paver, this beautiful gray filly has now raced three times and been in the money all three times. Hickory Lane will sell 16 of the best looking, best bred McArdle's you will find anywhere at Eden Park in Sunbury, Ohio on Saturday, September 19th. If you want to win not only Ohio Sires Stake races, but also Grand Circuit races, be sure to check them out!
