  • 2016: Another Banner Year in the Breeding Shed for Hickory Lane Stallions

    Apr 18, 2016
The 2016 breeding season is in full swing and it is shaping up as another banner year for Hickory Lane's three stallions, Uncle Peter, Dejarmbro and McArdle.

Uncle Peter's book has been full and closed since early January. The response this second year is even greater than the first in 2015. To top it off, his foals look just like him with a lot of leg, long bodies and pretty heads. His fertility has been excellent and he is great in the breeding shed. The quality of trotting mares Uncle Peter has received so far are the best in Ohio. It is hard not to imagine the impact this stallion will have when his yearlings hit the market.

Dejarmbro is now in his fourth year and as of this writing has booked over 100 mares and is well on his way to a book in the 120 to 130 catagory, if not more. As you know, his yearlings were well received at the yearling sales last year, averaging over $20,000.00 per yearling. More importantly, however, are the training reports we are receiving from trainers. While we all know this time of year is filled with optimism and hope, we are hearing phrases to describe the Dejarmbro's as "good gaited", "smart", "have a lot of endurance" and, "have class". Several top trainers who are training multiple Dejarmbro's indicate that all of them that they have in training are good, not just one or two. We are hopeful these accolades carry over when these two year olds start qualifying!

McArdle. The only word that comes to mind to describe this stallion is remarkable. McArdle is now in his fourth year standing in Ohio and already he has booked more than 100 mares this season, heading again to a full book despite intense competition in the State. His 2015 yearlings led the way in average at the Sales last year, topping ALL stallions in average. The training reports we receive are what we expected. The best ones will be among the best in Ohio. His track record is proven and he throws exceptionally good looking foals.

All in all, it has been another great breeding season at Hickory Lane. All of us here at the Farm are so appreciative of the support and recognition you have given us. We have worked hard and continue to do so to bring you the best quality stallions available. It is our sincere hope that your offspring will reward you on the racetrack with a champion from all three of these marvelous stallions. Good luck!
  • Hickory Lane Stallions for 2016; Uncle Peter nearly Full and Closed

    Dec 23, 2015
As we approach a new breeding season, all of us at Hickory Lane Farm want to wish you and your family a very happy holiday season!

Our three stallions, McArdle, Uncle Peter and Dejarmbro are booking at a rapid pace, especially Uncle Peter. If you are not a syndicate member and want to breed to Uncle Peter, it is strongly suggested you send in your application for consideration before the end of the year. The training reports we are receiving on the McArdle's and Dejarmbro's so far are very encouraging. The most prevalent comments we hear on the Dejarmbro's are that they are naturally gaited and have good common sense. On the McArdle's we hear they go out and do what they are supposed to do. One trainer went so far as to say to us that the McArdle colt he broke this year was the best he has broke in 25 years of training. With 95 two year olds beginning their careers in Ohio next year, McArdle will no doubt be a major force. He was a prominent stallion in the toughest jurisdiction, Pennsylvania, when he was saddled with foal crops of less than 40 every year. Just think what he will do with a large group in Ohio next year!

We are really excited about Dejarmbro. Many trainers have told us they sense they are Grand Circuit caliber horses. What people may not know is that after winning the Earl Beal Memorial in world record time as a three year old, Dejarmbro would have likely been the clear favorite for the Hambletonian two weeks later if he would have been eligible to the race. With his looks, pedigree and gait, it would be hard to imagine he will not have some grand circuit colts and fillies competing next summer. This is the year to breed back to him at a $5,000 stud fee because it may never be this low again.

We encourage you to book early if you wish to breed to these stallions. Their books have been full every year they have stood at Hickory Lane and we see 2016 as no exception. Feel free to call the Farm, we will be happy to assist you.

         Happy Holidays!

  • McDave wins fastest division of Tompkins-Geers at Tioga in 1:52.1f; Crosswinds Cupcake destroys field missing the track record at Scioto by 1/5 second in 1:51.4f; Kathy Parker second by a nose in $395,450.00 Jim Doherty Final at The Meadowlands

    Aug 10, 2015
It was a busy past weekend for Hickory Lane horses and a successful one at that. Topping the weekend off was the brilliant 2 year old McArdle colt, McDave, who got up and won the fastest division of the Tompkins-Geers Grand Circuit races Sunday at Tioga in a sparkling 1:52.1f. McDave has taken on and beaten the best 2 year old colts in the country this summer, something you can come to expect in the years ahead in Ohio if you own a McArdle offspring.

Not to be outdone, Crosswinds Cupcake (Stand Forever-Keystone Mulberry-Artsplace) once again let everyone know she is the best 3 year old pacing filly in Ohio destroying her field in a near track record time of 1:51.4f, missing it by just 1/5 of a second. Congratulations to her connections.

Back to the Grand Circuit, Kathy Parker (Andover Hall-Mallelujah-Malabar Man) was second beaten by less than an inch in the prestigious $395,450.00 Jim Doherty final (formerly known as the Merrie Annabelle) at the Meadowlands on Hambo Day this past Saturday. Kathy Parker is out of the fine Hickory Lane mare, Mallelujah, who is presently in foal to Dejarmbro. Congratulations to the Jimmy Takter connections and co-owners Ohioans, Joyce and Dick McClelland.

Finally, congratulations are in order to Jay and Jake Mossbarger's of Midland Acres. Pinkman, whom they raised and sold as a yearling, won the prestigious Hambletonian this past weekend at The Meadowlands. The Mossbarger's own the mother of Pinkman, Margie Seelster, and what a thrill it must be to own the dam of a Hambo winner! Congratulations from all of us at Hickory Lane!

We will be taking videos of our yearlings this week. The Ohio Selected Jug Sale catalog is online at the Lexington Select Yearling Sale website for your review. We have the largest single consignment of any consignor and we feel, the best bred yearlings overall as a group, in the sale. Check them out.
  • Two Year Old McArdle Filly, Shesasmokinlady, wins Division of Arden Downs at The Meadows in 1:53

    Aug 03, 2015
On Adios day, McArdle's two year old filly, Shesasmokinlady (McArdle-Smokin Pistol-Jate Lobell) smoked her opposition in a $20,000.00 division of the Arden Downs grand circuit race by wiring the field in 1:53f, just two-fifths off the stakes record. Owned by Iris Horowitz, driven by Tony Hall and trained by Kelly Paver, this beautiful gray filly has now raced three times and been in the money all three times. Hickory Lane will sell 16 of the best looking, best bred McArdle's you will find anywhere at Eden Park in Sunbury, Ohio on Saturday, September 19th. If you want to win not only Ohio Sires Stake races, but also Grand Circuit races, be sure to check them out!
  • McWicked finishes a strong second in his debut at Harrah's Philadelphia; McDave and McPhil place in PASS action at The Meadows pacing their miles in 1:52.3 and 1:52 respectively

    Jul 27, 2015
It was a busy weekend for McArdle's offspring this past weekend. McWicked, making his first start of the year Sunday at Harrah's Philadelphia in the $30,000 Open Pace, came from next to last around the final turn and turned on the afterburners to finish a strong second pacing his mile in 1:50.4. McWicked now looks ready to take on the best of the sport the rest of this year after being named Pacer of the Year in 2014.
In PASS action Saturday evening for 2 year old colt pacers at The Meadows, the two fine young McArdle colts, McDave and McPhil,  turned in gutsy performances against the Somebeachsomewhere's. McDave was second by a neck in 1:52.3f while McPhil was a solid third pacing his mile in 1:52 flat. The Somebeachsomewhere winner in McPhil's race paced to a national season's record in 1:51.1f, showing just how good the McArdle's stack up against the best competition in the world, especially given the fact that there are only 25 2 year old McArdle's in Pennsylvania this year. When the McArdle's appear on the scene in Ohio next year, they should be more than capable of winning their share of stakes both in Ohio and nationally, especially given the fact that he will have close to 100 2 year olds for the first time since his initial crop years ago.
Finally, we can't leave out the McArdle fillies as Macarena Momma finished a strong third in PASS action for 3 year old pacing fillies Saturday at The Meadows.
All of Hickory Lane's yearlings are now in the barns being prepped for the upcoming yearling sales. Without a doubt, this is the finest group we have ever sold both in looks and in pedigree. We encourage you to come out and inspect our 28 yearlings that will sell at the Ohio Sale September 19th at Eden Park, Sunbury, Ohio; you will not be disappointed.
  • McArdle's 2 Year Old Colts Give A Strong Showing In PASS Action at Pocono

    Jul 16, 2015
The first leg of the tough PASS Sire Stakes for 2 year old pacing colts kicked off last evening in at Pocono. The two McArdle colts in the six divisions gave good accounts of themselves by both placing close second's in their respective divisions. In the first, McPhil (McArdle-Philadelphia), paced in 1:54 with a last quarter in 27.3 to gain place honors. In another division, already two time winner McDave (McArdle-Southwind Piper) was pinched on the inside in an attempt to rally up the passing lane just coming up short by a neck in 1:53.4 with a last quarter paced in 27.4. Both colts look to be prime contenders this year on the tough PASS circuit and could very likely shine in the upcoming rich grand circuit stakes this year. Hickory Lane will be selling 17 of the best bred first crop of Ohio eligible McArdle's this Fall at the Ohio Select Jug Sale. If you want to compete next year at the top level for the rich Ohio Sires Stakes, you can't leave the Sale without one.
  • McDave Victorious in Pennsylvania All Stars Stake at Pocono

    Jul 06, 2015
The 2 year old McArdle colt, McDave, continued his impressive unbeaten start to his freshman season with a convincing win in the Pennsylvania All Stars at Mohegan Sun at Pocono Downs last Friday, shooting up the rail to win by a length and a quarter in 1:53.4f with a last quarter sprint in 27.1. McDave is a big, strong colt with a flawless gait who looks to be one of the very best freshman colt pacers on the Pennsylvania circuit. McDave is owned by Ronald Michelon, Ill. and David and John Prushnok of Punxsutawney, Pa.,and trained by Erv Miller and driven by Marcus Miller.
What is so impressive about McArdle as a sire is that this is his very last crop of Pennsylvania eligibles of which there are only 25. Yet, McArdle continues producing grand circuit stake winners even with these paltry numbers besting the likes of the Somebeachsomewhere's, Well Said's and Dragon Again's. Now, in 2015, with close to 100 foals from his first Ohio crop, McArdle is certain to have a large share of Ohio Sires Stakes and Grand Circuit performers in 2016. Hickory Lane is selling 16 McArdle's at the Ohio Selected Jug Sale Sale September 19th. You don't want to miss them because they are some of the finest bred individuals that will be selling at that sale. Please feel free to come to the Farm and inspect them any time. You are always welcome.
  • Katniss, a full sister to Dejarmbro, wins Empire Breeder's Elimination in 1:53; McDave, a 2 year old McArdle, Wins Fastest Baby Race at Mohegan Sun

    Jun 15, 2015
Two of Hickory Lane's stallions were showcased this past week. Katniss, the 3 year old full sister to Dejarmbro, drew off easily by 2 lengths in Sunday's elimination for next week's $250,000 Empire Breeder's Classic final at Vernon Downs in New York in 1:53. Owned By Mario Mazza and trained by Ake Svanstedt, this filly is rounding into form at the right time and looks now to be one of the top 3 year old trotting fillies in the country. Watch out for her going forward.

What can you say about McArdle? With only 37 foals from his last Pennsylvania crop, he is at it again with another top 2 year old colt named McDave (McArdle-Southwind Piper-Artsplace) who blistered the mile at Mohegan Sun Pocono in a swift 1:56.1 last Friday drawing off by over six lengths under no urging at all. It was the fastest pacing mile of the day for 2 year old colt pacers and his second straight victory. Erv Miller trains this colt. Look for him making a huge impact this year in Pennsylvania.

Hickory Lane will be selling 12 Dejarmbro's and 16 McArdle's at the Ohio Selected Jug Sale September 19th at Eden Park, Sunbury, Ohio. These are some of the best bred yearlings we have ever sold at public auction. We also have a handful we are selling privately. We are excited about them and would be pleased to show them to you. Please feel free to stop at the Farm anytime, we would be happy to have you visit and see these wonderful yearlings..
  • Allbeef N Nobull gives McArdle another PASS Winner in the 3 Year Old Colt Pace at Harrah's Philadelphia

    May 29, 2015
Allbeef N Nobull (McArdle-She Likes It All-The Big Dog) rode a perfect pocket trip to victory in the second $71,389.00 division of the Pennsylvania Sires Stakes for three year old pacing colts in a snappy 1:51f yesterday at Harrah's Philadelphia. Owned by Donald Emonds of Massachusetts, trained by Monte Gelrod and driven by Brett Miller, this colt now has 5 wins in 8 lifetime starts. McArdle's Lightning, last weeks McArdle winner, finished third. What McArdle offspring have accomplished in the tough Pennsylvania circuit this year so far is just incredible. From only 41 foals, he already has 2 sire stake winners. It will be exciting to see the results he'll produce in Ohio when his 2 year olds begin racing in 2016. Additionally, It should be an exciting time at the Ohio Select Yearling Sale this Fall. Hickory Lane has most of the finest bred McArdle's that will sell there this Fall. Make sure you check them out, you will not be disappointed!
  • McArdle's Lightning Scorches Competition in PASS at Mohegan Sun

    May 18, 2015
The first leg of PASS for 3 year old pacing colts took place Saturday evening at Mohegan Sun at Pocono Downs. The first and fastest $56,442.00 division was won by McArdle's Lightning (McArdle-Winning Venture-Jate Lobell) who made a dramatic move from last to first in scorching his competition by 3 1/4 lengths in 151.1f. Looking like a seasoned veteran, this three year old has sounded the alarm early that he is poised to be one of the top 3 year old colt pacers on the tough Pennsylvania circuit this summer. Maybe he can fill McWicked's shoes and represent McArdle well this year. Congratulations to his owner and McArdle Syndicate member, Lightning Stables, LLC, Florida; trainer, Steve Elliot; and, driver, Anthony Napolitano. McArdle is having another banner year in the breeding shed in Ohio. Even though this is his third year standing in Ohio, he has surpassed last year's numbers and has booked well in excess of 100 mares for the third year in a row. Thank you to all the breeder's for your support!

    Aug 18, 2014

In one of the more thrilling races you'll ever watch DATSYUK (Explosive Matter-Pink Ribbons-Mr Vic) rallied from off the pace to wear down Father Patrick in deep stretch to beat him by 1/2 length in the $36,000 Tompkins-Geers Stake at Tioga Downs Sunday. In upsetting one of the sports greatest trotters, DATSYUK established a new track record at Tioga for 3 year old trotting geldings with his 1:53.1 effort. DATSYUK is a homebred of Hickory Lane, born and bred right here on the Farm. PINK RIBBONS, his mother, was a high end trotter in her day and was a Hambletonian Oaks finalist in 2005. DATSYUK is owned by co-owner of Hickory Lane, Leonard Buckner along with his trainer, Charlie Norris. Charlie also drove DATSYUK to this monumental victory.

DATSYUK will next race in the PASS at The Meadows on August 26th before the PASS final on September 7 at Harrah's Chester. Congratulations to Leonard, Charlie and Datsyuk. We are proud of you!

    Aug 08, 2014

Even being saddled with the far outside post position proved to be no problem for MCWICKED as he easily defeated six other rivals in PASS action at Harrah's Philadelphia yesterday drawing off by over 4 lengths in a blistering 1:48.4f, last quarter in 27 seconds. Currently rated the sixth best standardbred in North America, this world champion son of MCARDLE has his sights firmly set on The Little Brown Jug in September. Hickory Lane is excited for this event as it will allow MCARDLE'S finest son of 2014 to showcase his immense talents before our fans in our home state of Ohio.  Next stop for MCWICKED, the final PASS leg and then the PASS final and then to the Jug. Congratulations to his connections, SSG Stables, Casie Coleman and David Miller.

    Jul 28, 2014

MCWICKED showed once again why he is among the very best pacers by capturing the $400,000.00 Adios at The Meadows Saturday in wire to wire fashion in 1:49.1f. This WORLD CHAMPION now has earnings approaching $800,000.00. Congratulations to his owner SSG Stables, NY, trainer Casie Coleman and driver David Miller.

MCARDLE has stamped himself as one of North America's leading pacing sires. His 2 year olds rank third in average earnings per foal and his 3 year olds rank second only behind Somebeachsomewhere. This is truly an astounding accomplishment especially given the limited number of foals he has on the ground that were bred in the ultra tough Pennsylvania market. In Ohio next year, over 100 foals will begin their training. Given these kind of numbers, the likes MCARDLE has never seen consistently before, the sky is the limit for his success here in Ohio.

    Jul 17, 2014

Two year old colt pacers were in action at Mohegan Sun at Pocono Downs last evening and co-scripting the fastest mile of the evening was MCARDLE'S superb freshman, MCARDLES LIGHTNING who made an impressive move from the rear at the top of the stretch to get up by a nose in a wicked time of 1:51f. That win makes it 2 for 2 in PASS competition for this fine colt owned by LIghtning Stable, LLC, Boca Raton , Florida, trained by Steve Elliott and driven by Matt Kakaley.

At the time of this writing, MCARDLE stands third in overall average of all three year old colt pacers. His two year olds, from a limited crop, have been equally impressive with multiple sire stakes winners and performers competing every week on the grand circuit. It's been a great year so far for MCARDLE. Congratulations to all!
